Attractions in Rome

The City of Rome is probably the center of attraction in Italy and once you are there, you won’t miss some interesting things to see or do. This city has monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, parks and gardens, sports facilities, shopping areas, theaters, cinemas and other historic landmarks. You can enjoy a wide range of activities in some of these attractions while you can relax and have a good time in others such as the parks.

Most of the City’s attractions are historical sites featuring interesting architectural designs both ancient and modern. Rome is the centre of the Catholic Church and the noticeable church is the St. Peter’s Basilica.  Get to see the largest church in the world together with other churches and Basilicas such as the Basilica of Maxentius, St. John in Lateran and Santa Maria Maggiore. Other Christian sites to visit are the Santa Balbina, Santa Maria in Cosmedin and the Santa Saba.

Rome has Squares where people can meet, hold events and perform other activities. They include St. Peter’s Square, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Nacona and the Piazza di Spigna.  There are also museums such as the Museum of Rome which is a historical museum. Libraries such as the Biblioteca Angelica are also attractions worth seeing and can be found all around the city.

Sports facilities also portray a unique architecture and design that will fascinate you. The Colosseum and the Circus Maximus are some of the examples. You can go watch some activities or just for sightseeing purposes. The Trevi Fountain and the Fountain of Four Rivers are other Rome attractions you should not forget to see.

There are shopping areas where visitors can shop for items such as crafts, glassworks, books, clothes, and leather items at affordable prices. You could go to the Porta Portese flea market or the Piazza San Silvestro for jewelry. The Via del Corso is good for clothing and other items as well.

Rome takes care of visitors of all ages and if you have kids, the best places to take them would be Time Elevator Rome theater for movies, Unusual Rome for Kids and the Looney’s Indoor Entertainment Centre for a variety of indoor shows and other activities.

Other interesting features are the events such as the RomaEuropa Festival which is a cultural event for dance and music and other performances, Rome Marathon if you are a sports fanatic and the Birth of Rome celebrations among others.
